Assessment for Learning MOOC’s Updates

Portfolio Assessment as an Alternative Form of Assessment

Portfolio assessment is an alternative form of assessment where learners compile a collection of their work over time to show growth, reflection, and mastery. It focuses on process and progress rather than a single test result, encouraging students to take ownership of their learning. One of its greatest strengths is that it values creativity, self-assessment, and individual learning styles. However, its main weakness lies in the subjectivity of grading and the time it requires for both teachers and learners to complete and evaluate. Despite these challenges, portfolio assessment promotes authentic learning and a deeper understanding of concepts.
