Assessment for Learning MOOC’s Updates

Standardized-based test and Alternative assessment

The social assumptions on standardized- based test is it has an expectation of uniform learner capabilities Where it assumes that all students have equal opportunity to achieve learning. It has clear goals. While in alternative assessment, it assumes that learners have different backgrounds and cultural responsiveness. It is authentic, flexible and student-centered.

Portfolio assessment is an example of an alternative form of assessment. It is widely used in the Philippines. In each quarter, students are required to compile their work, which usually includes a reflection based on their submissions. It provides an authentic demonstration of a learner's progress, skills, and achievement, which helps students to reflect and also assists teachers in providing feedback. With the help of this method, students can perform self-assessment to identify their needs and strengths, fostering a sense of belonging and involving them in their own learning.
