Abstract

This article aims to present the findings of a study conducted among a student population at a technological university in Western Mexico to identify the level of machismo attitudes and the perception of positive masculinity expressions. Through descriptive statistical analysis, using data collected with the “Machista Behavior and Perception of Positive Masculinities Attitudes Scale for Complex Environments,” the study sought to describe how these elements behave and to identify a possible correlation between them. The findings indicated a significant relationship between machismo behavior indicators and the perception of positive masculinity expressions, showing that greater acceptance of machista behavior corresponds with lower acceptance or approval of positive masculinity expressions, and vice versa. By identifying machista attitudes and promoting positive masculinity, this study guides educational institutions toward inclusive human development. It reveals the necessity for universities to adopt practices that ensure equitable learning, driving policies that favor inclusion. Although preliminary, its findings are crucial for future research in education, social sciences, and gender studies, emphasizing the importance of overcoming the gender gap and promoting inclusive environments. This work highlights the critical role of education against machismo and in favor of an equitable society, marking an essential step toward gender equality and inclusion in education.
