Learning, Knowledge and Human Development MOOC’s Updates
Essential Update #4
Option #1
Educational psychology is also concerned with the dynamics of learning. In his contribution to this course, George Reese analyzes by way of example the notion of "productive struggle." How can educational psychology help us to understand the processes of learning?
Make an Update: Take one area of the learning sciences. How does educational psychology contribute to our understanding? What evidence does it offer? What interpretative concepts and theories does it provide?
In this week of the course Dr. George Reese analyzed the material very nicely.
The part of learning sciences that particularly interested me was how to encourage creativity in children. I think that because of today's way of life, technology and ready-made ideas, children's imagination and creativity are declining. Of corse, not all children are creative, but today's statistics tell us that children's creativity is declining, unlike in the past, when children were much more involved in creative activities.
Some of the ways we can encourage children's creativity are:
- create a stimulating atmosphere
- give children more freedom, or encourage them to work the way they want to
- provide them with enough time and resources for creative expression
- encourage them to motivate themselves for creative expression
- allow children to express their opinions
It is important to know that the same child can be ceative in only one area while in another not. Not all children express their creativity in the same way and children must be taught that diversity is good. Scientific studies have shown that if a child is exposed to nature it is increases his creativity and curiosity about the world and discovering new knowledge.
The school can also make a major contribution to the development of children's creativity. Teachers should give more tasks in which children could show their creativity but also develop it at the same time. In this way they could learn from each other but also learn from the mistakes they make, it is important to teach them that mistakes are normal and direct them to get better every time.
I personally think that in the age we live in it is very important to develp children's creativity. The earlier children start to develop their creativity, the higher it will be in the future. I believe that this area is very important for observation from a psychological point of view. On the psychological and pedagogical side it can also help us to better understand children, their wishes and goals.
Great report
Cognitive development is a natural occurrence that begins in the child stages of life. This is the time frame where thinking on your own, exploring and figuring out how things operate, and using newly developed skills such as problem solving and dispositions assist children in better understanding the world, This trait lasts throughout the entirety of one's life. Only thing that changes is the individual perceives things.
In order to develop a child's creativity and keep it at a desirable level I would say that today's children should participate in more outside activities and the mother or father could make it a routine to spend a moment of their time with their child and express their own happiness with making something, painting something, role playing together, and limit the amount of time that is spent engaging in electronics. I noticed that my children utilized more of their own ideas instead of following someone else's trend when we sang and danced together, painted and built structures together, I believe that once we got into a routine of understanding that we don't have to do things like everyone else and that we can use Picasso's way of vision it still leaves a great impact.
