Learning, Knowledge and Human Development MOOC’s Updates

Essential Update #1

What is the role of the teacher in the behaviorist scheme?

The goal of every teacher should be to motivate their students to become more interested in learning and not to understand the learning process itself as a punishment or something bad in general. How behaviorism teaches us the task of teachers is to create an atmosphere in their classroom that is conducive to learning. If children do not have a good learning environment they will not feel motiveted for the process of learning. The teacher should explain the material to the children as best as possible and then check their knowledge. Students must receive feedback on their success on the test given ti them by the teacher to find out where they went wrong. The tracher should explain why the mistake was made and give them correct answer so that everyone can learn what they did not know.

I think that the behaviorism based on repetiton can sometimes be good for example when children need to remember a definition. I believe that children should learn with understanding, but I am aware that somethimes certain things and concepts must be learned by repetition because certain material is not always interesting to everyone. Some children are constantly learning throught repetition, and it is up to the teacher to discover what suits students the best.
