Essential Update #1
What is the role of the teacher in the behaviorist scheme?
The main key of learning in behaviorism is repetition so the teacher should motivate students with praise or punishment. The focus is on the teacher. According to behaviourism, the teacher should be able to create a positive atmosphere so that students can create a learning routine which would improve their learning. The teacher is supposed to go through a topic and give tasks which the students have to complete. After finishing the tasks, students should be providen correct answers.
I disagree with behaviourism because I think that learning through repetition may be boring and that children should be providen with more creative tasks and that they should be included into lessons.
Key concept of behaviorism:
A classical conditioning is a type of learning in which a neutral stimulus is paired with a stimulus that elicits a reflex reaction. The best example of classical conditioning is Ivan Pavlov's experiment with dogs. Pavlov wanted to investigate inherited reflexes related to salivation when a dog tastes food. He concluded that the stimulus from the environment affected the dog's reaction.
The teacher could apply classical conditioning for positive purposes by creating a safe environment for all students, especially for those who do not cope well in stressful situations. In order for the teacher to achieve this, it would be good to associate stressful situations with positivity (support in public speaking).
