Learning, Knowledge and Human Development MOOC’s Updates
Essential Update #1: What are the dangers and uses of intelligence tests?
The major danger of intelligence tests is the tendency to assume that a certain group of people are more intelligent or less intelligent and such classification would then be the bases of all forms of biases- tribal, religion, gender and in countries made up people from various races, race is would be added. While data might show a trend that seems to favor these biases, they often result in the wrong assumption that a certain class of people cannot learn or are not qualified based on these biases.
Intelligence tests are also vital when they are not used to classify a group of people but to evaluate the level of intelligence of an individual. If a child is to start school, an intelligence test might be suitable to have an idea the level of intelligence of the child. This would enable to teachers place the child in the suitable class and then they can monitor the child from there on.
