Essential Peer Reviewed Update #5: Distributed intelligence
During this chapter, the topic of distributed learning, bringing me a fascinating perspective. I'm convinced that there are new ways education technologies can be orchestrated to create a very impactful learning environmental.
I started to research about distributed artificial intelligence to understand if the principles of this technology can also apply for educational approaches, and I found many applications.
Let's start with the concept of Distributed Artificial Intelligence. According to the Wikipedia article, "DAI systems consist of autonomous learning processing nodes (agents), that are distributed, often at a huge scale. DAI nodes can act independently, and partial solutions are integrated by communication between nodes, often asynchronously. By their scale, DAI systems are robust and elastic, and by necessity, loosely coupled. Furthermore, DAI systems are built to be adaptive to changes in the problem definition or underlying data sets due to the scale and difficulty in redeployment."
The goal of applying DAI (distributed artificial intelligence) is to solve the reasoning, planning, learning, and perception problems of artificial intelligence. As an example: DAI system learns financial trading rules from subsamples of large samples of financial data.
According to Francesco Corea, DAI is a class of technologies and methods that span from swarm intelligence to multi-agent technologies, and that concerns the development of distributed solutions for a specific problem.
According to Ponomarev and Voronkov (2017), a DAI can be defined by three main characteristics:
It is a method for the distribution of tasks between agents;
It is a method of distribution of powers;
It is a method of communication of the agents.
So, let's imagine that all universities in the world can create and open their AI Systems to create a global Distribute Artificial Intelligence network. It allows any teacher and student to apply this technology to solve very complex problems. And also use DAI to capture the data of students learning difficulties and performances? I believe that a combination of DAI and distributed intelligence techniques Can enhance educational systems.
