Situated Cognition in Mathematics teaching and learning
Situated Cognition is theory that posists that learning is an activity situated bound to be in social, cultural,physical and emotional dimesions.The term ‘situated’ refers to ‘being placed in a particular position, situation or location’ whereas ‘learning’ involves the ‘experience, exposure, and acquaintance with’ knowledge or skill.Collin, Brown and Duguid (1996) can be accredited for the theory of ‘Situated Cognition,’ This theory emphasizes how conceptual knowledge and critical application of competencies can be achieved through activities, culture, and contexts that allow learners to apply and expand on their prior knowledge independently, and in collaboration with a community of learners.
While teaching and learning of mathematics, educator need to consider the diversity of learners, the cultural,social, emotional and pysical dimesion.The concept of mathematics need to be contextually relevant to the learners. As an educator is paramount to give contextual examples instead of abstract examples to enhance the understanding of the concept.
The teaching and learning should address the needs of diversity of learners and instruction should be tailored as per their readiness level, interest and learning profiles.Educator should also tailored the developmentally appropraited instructions to make learning signifcant.

Very good review . I agree that the teaching and learning experience should be adapted to the learner and more, if we are talking about such abstract concepts like maths. Regarding to the theory of situated cognition, I have a question, if you could use your own words to define it, what words would you use, since I am massive of fan of conceptual knowledge and acquisition.
