Essential Peer Review 7#: Personalized learning and future
The topic I choose was one that has been an interest of mine for many years: personalized learning.
Personalized learning is an educational approach that aims to customize learning for each student's or workers strengths, needs, skills and interests. Each student / learner gets a learning plan that's based on what he knows and how he learns best (*) (**).
If we look at the course we have just taken, a lot of elements can be linked with personalized learning:
- Ubiquitous Learning is a main component. Learning what you want, when you want it is key to personalized learning. In the company I work for, we call it learning just in time. If you need a specific Excel formula, you learn the moment you need it and you use it immediately. A lot of tools are being developed to make this possible: learning channels, learning platforms but the mail ones (YouTube and Google) are still the ones that are use the most.
- Multimodal Meaning is also very important. The ever-evolving technology makes it much easier to find the knowledge you need. One thing I would like to add to this is Artificial Intelligence. AI will add an extra layer to personalized learning. Big dumps of data will be processed so patterns and predications can be made. They'll analyze what type of learner you are and send you learning modules before you even thought of it. If you search for a specific knowledge, AI will help you find the best or give similar options. This is a very exciting element for the future.
- Intrinsic motivation and personalized learning are linked. If you can learn what interests you, what motivates you, you will become stronger in one of the competencies that are now very much sought after on the job market: learn-agility. Learn-agility is so important in a world that keeps changing and changes faster and faster.Life Long Learning or Life Wide Learning is directly linked to intrinsic motivation.
A person or company that does not keep learning will be overtaken from all sides and will no longer be necessary in the long run.
