SimScientists Program
The Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (STEM) program at WestEd's SimScientists program consists of a portfolio of research and development initiatives that highlight the ways in which simulations may enhance science instruction and evaluation. Thanks to technological advancements, simulation-based activities can be modified to provide accommodations for students with disabilities and English language learners. Science simulations can be utilized as summative, formative, and embedded assessments in curriculum activities.
In order to guide the development of successful simulations as teaching and evaluation tools, the SimScientists initiative explores design principles. Furthermore, the SimScientists program investigates the application of science simulations in balanced state science assessment systems at the classroom, district, and state levels of education.
