Based on Howard Gardner's idea, the most modern psychological theories describe nine different categories of intelligence:

Logical-mathematical
Linguistic
Vision and space
Musical
Kinesthetic and self-body
Intra-personal
Inter-personal
Naturalist
Existentialist

Only the first three forms of intelligence may be assessed with an IQ test. It is conceivable to have an average IQ while being considered very intelligent for the other six kinds.

Because of this, IQ shouldn't be given excessive weight because it is insufficient to appropriately assess a person's intelligence.
