Abstract

Taking a constructivist-interpretivist stance, this case study gave a voice to 40 Year 6 children from the Olympic borough of Hackney in east London. The data collected contributes to an existing body of knowledge where most data has been collected from secondary aged pupils. The re-emergence of learner experience and voice as a pedagogical approach to inform practice is encouraged throughout. The vibrancy and richness of the children's voices were used to explore whether the Olympic Legacy has made any discernible difference to the children or their families economically or in terms of sporting opportunities. This paper examines whether the overt excitement and positivity expressed by the children prior to the Games coming to their borough in 2012 has seen their dreams and wishes come true or dashed and betrayed by circumstances.
