Abstract

China’s urbanization development has brought about a surge in Shenzhen’s population. This has led to high housing prices, forcing young migrants to rent small houses, for which conventional furniture is not suitable. Hence, researchers conducted a literature survey to gather information on furniture suitable for small houses. The literature review focused on three main themes: Knowledge of Small House Furniture, Small House Furniture Design, and Emotional Design for Small House Furniture. Researchers used a “Literature Review Synthesis Process” to analyze and integrate the collected information. The goal was to identify highly probable solutions to improve the shortcomings of small house furniture design to meet the needs of young migrants in Shenzhen. The conclusion is that combining emotional design with Kano-QFD theory can increase emotional entry points to developing small house furniture with multifunctional, modular, storage, and folding features, better meeting user needs and improving user experience.
