Abstract

The Pradhan Mantri Khanij Kshetra Kalyan Yojana (PMKKKY) works through District Mineral Foundations (DMFs) to ensure that the wealth generated from mining directly benefits local communities. By supporting projects in health, education, livelihoods, and infrastructure, the scheme aims to make mining-led growth more inclusive and sustainable. This study, based entirely on secondary sources such as government reports, policy briefs, and research publications, explores how PMKKKY initiatives in India’s mining districts contribute to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It also highlights successful practices that strengthen the program’s positive impact on people’s lives. However, issues such as limited transparency, weak community participation, and delays in fund utilization continue to restrict its full potential. The findings suggest that when managed effectively, DMFs can transform mining revenues into long-term community benefits. Overall, PMKKKY provides a valuable model for other resource-rich nations seeking to achieve equitable and sustainable development.
