Laughter
Abstract
In different societies, laughter has several concepts and manifestations according to the cultural aspect that surrounds it. This article seeks to determine its role during the COVID-19 pandemic, as it produced such negative emotions for humans, such as uncertainty, chaos, or fear. The research question: Is laughter, in the face of uncertainty, a tool for survival, confrontation, or escape? The author used a mixed approach through a literature review to study the factors and cultural aspects of laughter and how it could be employed to ensure collective well-being, as well as the Chaos Theory. Furthermore, following a quantitative approach, the author created and applied a survey to one hundred university students, taking their experiences lived through the COVID-19 pandemic to determine laughter’s role. This study proposes a new role for laughter, elaborating more than its use for providing a simple meaning and for a society’s gathering.
