Abstract

This study focuses on the pedagogical methods used in architectural design courses to enrich students’ knowledge and skills. It examines the impact of interactive teaching methods on the academic performance of architecture students, exploring how these methods facilitate unconventional approaches to knowledge acquisition and bridge the gap between theory and practice. These methods encourage learners to engage with the designed environment and to interact with its users throughout the design process. Interactive teaching methods were used in one of the design courses taught at the School of Architecture to design indoor spaces within the Faculty of Engineering Technology at Zarqa University in Jordan. The methods play a vital role in enhancing students’ creativity, enabling them to realize their proposed designs as products of creative processes that can meet the users’ needs. The study findings support the necessity of introducing innovative and interactive education in architectural design courses to enhance creativity in designing and developing the built environment. The findings also support the necessity of highlighting informal teaching methods in enhancing students’ creativity, and advocating for a shift toward more active and student-centered pedagogic methods.
