Abstract

This study explores the different uses of learning management systems (LMS) in teaching art and design courses with a focus on the role of LMS in supporting art and design higher education. The main purpose of this study is to examine which of the LMS investigated in this study are most effective and conducive to art and design online learning. Accordingly, this article includes an analysis of the e-learning content development process involved in the BA Art and Design courses at the University of Bahrain. It examines effective uses of LMS tools, such as e-learning content authoring tools, assessment tools, and embedding interactive media materials into HTML editors, quizzes, forums, grading, and videoconference tools, in art and design distance learning. It also discusses the challenges and issues that art and design educators face when designing and delivering their e-content through various LMS. This research then investigates how students and teachers utilize LMS features and functionalities, and, based on the findings, it suggests recommendations and possibilities for future directions in the development of LMS for teaching art and design.
