Abstract

The present study seeks an innovative solution to the digitization challenge facing Nigeria’s higher education institutions (HEIs). This initiative is crucial for continuity of teaching and learning during disruptive periods such as the COVID-19 pandemic, which profoundly affected the education sector. However, the integration of digital technology has transformed how education is conceptualized globally. This new approach requires the interplay of new actors and stakeholders in the education system. The study identified network providers as best suited to pilot the digitization of Education in Nigeria’s HEIs. Due to their adaptability and resilience, they thrive under limited and often inadequate basic infrastructure. It further revealed both challenges and prospects for actualizing this initiative. Hence, the study recommends that a pragmatic government approach, such as engagements and specific policy implementation strategies, is crucial for achieving the digitization initiative of HEIs in Nigeria.
