Beauty in the Wealth of Literary Eloquence of Quranic Verses in English
Abstract
This paper is essentially a discussion of the language and literary aspects present in the English language translations of the meaning of the Quran. A further objective is to seek to establish the suitability of using Quranic verses as literary texts in the Literature classroom. A literary piece can only become beautiful if the meaning can be extracted from its words. If an optimal level of understanding is achieved of its words then a deep appreciation is felt by the reader. Similarly, if an optimal level of understanding is achieved of the verses from the Quran, whether it be in Arabic or any other language, the deep appreciation will be felt by the reader. A closer look at the presence and understanding of figurative language and literary devices embedded in the description of each Quranic image was done. The translators of the original Quran as revealed in Arabic in striving to capture every element of descriptive meaning of the Quranic images have managed to leave their readers in awe.
