Multimodal Literacies MOOC’s Updates
Assignment 3 Designing Multimodal Flash fiction
Writing flash fiction is a perfect start for boosting creative writing skills. Despite its brevity, it has characters and dramatic plot development. These are many varieties of flash fiction : dribble, drabble, sudden fiction. Flash fiction has a unique literary quality.
To enhance students' creativity, writing skills, as well as multimodal literacy, I encourage my EFL students design multimodal fiction. There is a whole range of modes available to include: grahemic feature (variations of font, italics, capitalization, blank spaces), paragraphemic features (emoticons, charts, diagrams, icons, visuals), audio backgound etc. These modes are to be used for chatacter portraying, adding dynamics to the narrative, express emotions, describe the setting etc.
Students should be aware of the structural approch , i.e. plan, draft, review and revise .
All of these modes along with verbal component should contribute to designing a coherent, meaningful thought-provoking piece of writing.
