Learning, Knowledge and Human Development MOOC’s Updates
Essential Peer Review Update 2
This is an update regarding different examples of experiences the excercise learning the "social mind" and how it expands on learning beyond the individual mind.
Research shows that social mind is an innate feature of human brain and it has its roots in evolution. In order to survive humans needed to make sense of rather ambiguous hand gestures, facial expresssions, and body postures of other humans. The results presented in the research show that normally developing humans show more motivation and more interest in learning while present in the social environment and learning with others.
The great example the social mind in learning is the actual social learning. Social learning is defined as a cognitive process within the social environment. It is done through the direct experiences and examples, mostly based on the real-life approach. The difference between formal learning (such as classroom or webinar) is that social learning is done in the relevant social contexts. Many teachers who favor social learning use the 70:20:10 model, stating that 70% of our knowledge is acquired while communicating and interacting with our peers.
Other examples include:
FAQs and Forums: promotes a social culture of collaborative learning by creating an open environment where employees can ask questions and receive answers from others within the organization.
Leverage Expert Knowledge: utilizes the insights and experiences of experts in the workplace through the creation of a communication channel that encourages experts to provide their own knowledge and through a rating system, only the most relevant answers are used and shared.
Gamification and rewards: providing incentives and tracking progress helps encourage employees to make sure they take advantage of social learning opportunities.
