Factors Resulting to Students' Tardiness: An Area of Interest in Socio-Behavioral Learning

During high school, we researched the factors that result in students' tardiness such as lack of proper study habits and motivation to study, stress, peer pressure, time management, lack of preparation, and lack of familial support. These factors are heavily influential on students' markings and grades. Learning opportunities are also affected because students who were not able to perform will get low grades.

To address this issue, we used the ideas of educational psychology. Firstly, we looked at related literature which provided us a broader perspective of the factors that affect students' tardiness. Secondly, we learned that a lot of students have not undergone counseling or seminars which tackle effective strategies for learning, as well as, they lack positive reinforcements from teaching personnel. Thirdly, to solve the learning problems, our study used a scientific approach to addressing the issues at hand. We looked over some psychological factors that might influence the common factors raised by students. With the given findings, we found out that there is a need for a matrix that would assess the performance of the students and their behaviors towards learning.

The main concepts that we cover using the research we conducted are learning, learning process, evaluation of the learning process which we adapted from an article by Reshma (n.d.). Learning involves the problems our students experienced during the time we took our research, and how it can be addressed using the related literature we gathered and recent interviews from experts. The learning process includes the research interest which are the internal and external factors that affect students’ learning. We also searched for learning bodies that affect the students’ learning development. To look for the effectiveness of our research, we evaluated the results by comparing it to our pre-assessment with the learners.

Our research fundamentally addressed some notions of learning. That is, learning is complex, and it is a collective construction. We had done a lot of revisions and improvements with our research, but I hope that my institution used that as a tool to understand the learning situations of our students and a body of knowledge that would allow for more research on the area of socio-behavioral interest or topic we covered.
