Approaches in Teaching-learning During Pandemic

Before the pandemic, students attended school in person. As the pandemic hit, Philippine academic institutions closed doors to on-site education. Online education was the modality for learning in private schools, and completion of learning modules was for learning in public schools.

I saw efforts for continuous learning and there were challenges, anxieties, and doubts about the students progress. Through online classes, my younger brother attended his 1st year and 2nd year of high school in a private school. We worried for some time about him attending in that kind of setting because it's new and he was just transitioning from elementary to high school. How would he behave in that kind of setting? So, I decided to be near him whenever he has online classes, but he does not see me. I would overhear lessons, announcements, and activities from his online class. The approach used in an online class was the same as that used in an onsite class. The teacher would facilitate discussions, ask thought-provoking questions, and then assign homework to allow for in-depth understanding. Since I can only see my younger sibling and the teacher can only see half of the students' bodies, I'm not sure if the approach worked for everyone. But online classes are still in use today.

Another was with my nephew. He attended his 5th and 6th grade in a public school through learning modules. His mother was working and couldn't keep up with her son's education, so she requested that I tutor him. Completing the modules was like doing self-study on the part of the student, since there was no in-person interaction with teachers. They occasionally have online classes because several of the lessons require a lot of explanation. If my nephew was alone doing the modules, he might have had difficulty completing them. This kind of approach is effective if there is someone who would alternately guide the student in the absence of teachers.

Currently, didactic pedagogy is still employed exclusively or in conjunction with other pedagogies in teaching and learning. If pupils do not learn what is required of them, a pedagogy falls short of being appropriate.Using didactic pedagogy is appropriate as long as students do not lose interest and it is effective in their learning.
