I think the finacial crisis of the past 10 years has greatly impacted the educational system in Greece. Having borrowed beyond their ability to repay, and being cut off from more outside financial sources being allotted to them, their leaders had no choice but to make severe cuts in many areas, including unfortunately, education. This has led to unrest and understandable frustration on the part of the youth there, especially at the university level. It has also put Greece in the unfortunate position of not being able to present research findings globally due to lack of financial support.

It looks as though things are improving of late though, and that Greece has gotten more creative with their approach to education. This has made things more student friendly, and providing opportunities that will be useful to the students going forward.

As unfortunate as the situation has been in Greece, it is not all that different than here in the United States. Budget cuts constantly force our school districts to get creative in our resources and approaches to education too. 

It also makes me a bit sad that so many of the Greek youth are leaving their homeland because futures are brighter elsewhere. My hope is that soon Greece will be in a position to welcome them home with opportunities that might still not be present today.
