In the edited collection Restart. Sport After the Covid-19 Time Out, practitioners and international scholars explore the “restart” of sport and fitness following the initial period of lockdowns during spring 2020. The chapters provide insight and analysis into the sport and fitness landscape following the initial wave of the pandemic. Challenges for sport providers, consequences for sporting participants, and chances for new ways of practicing sports are the focus of the book. It therewith contributes to the contemporaneous data, analyses, and insights into the global sport landscape that has been impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic. The book presents a variety of interdisciplinary perspectives in a total of nineteen individual chapters, organized around five main themes: sporting events, the Olympic Movement, national perspectives, youth and fitness sport, and the role of the media.
Jörg Krieger is Assistant Professor in Sport and Social Science at Aarhus University. He is a sport historian and the chair of Common Ground's Sport & Society Research Network. His research interests include the history of World Athletics, the Olympic Movement and doping.
April Henning is Lecturer of Sport Studies at the University of Stirling. She is a sociologist with expertise in sport and substance use. Her research interests include substance use in sport and fitness settings and anti-doping policy.
Lindsay Parks Pieper is an Associate Professor of Sport Management at the University of Lynchburg. She is a sport historian whose research interests include women’s sport history, gender and sport, and Olympic history.
