Didactic pedagogy is still very much needed today. It is still the best way to disseminate large amounts of factual information that simply needs to be memorized and applied. The way we initially obtain the information is done didactically. Then the given information can be tested, applied, and manipulated so that it becomes the learners using other pedagogies. The didactic approach allows us to be rooted in our past as Prof Cope mentioned. Without a deep understanding of our past, it is hard to construct new meaning for us in the present. However, we should not be limited by only didactic methods but in today's changing world past knowledge should be a springboard to testing and interacting with the knowledge in new environments. When that is done, the knowledge truly becomes the learners.
