New Learning MOOC’s Updates
Authentic Learning by Doing
In present times, with access to information at one's fingertips, it is possible to learn anything. We don't need to have formal schooling in order to learn how something works, we can simply watch a video tutorial, do our own research and experiments or learn through life's teachings through trials and errors.
This approach, although it is now new, it is very effective since it allows the learner to be curious, to investigate, to apply their knowledge to prove their own theories, and learn from their failures and successes.
I firmly believe that one of the best ways to achieve significant learning is through authentic learning. This pedagogy has proven its efficiency and effectiveness in the past, the present, and will continue to be used in the future.
One of the main reasons students do not become engaged in the classroom is that they don't see the relevance of the content to their daily life or context. When they realize the usefulness or that they can actually apply those concepts on a day-to-day basis, they become more interested in learning.
I have found that, indeed, authentic learning occurs while having active learning and participations through fieldtrips-even if they are virtual- experiments, and projects.
