New Learning MOOC’s Updates
Old Vs. New Learning and COVID-19 in the picture.
As a medical educator (early career), I can only emphasize the role of New learning (and perhaps authentic) to be at the forefront of all. Medical school (at least here in my country) seems more of a didactic learning environment, where senior colleagues tend to enforce 'what they know to work and must be the one to be learned'. I guess all educators require to be educated as well- emphasis to those from outside - teaching profession'
But how about lower levels (secondary and kindergarten) in particular in resource strained world? Since the global pandemic, we are yet to see a big setback in education as many will not be able to go back to school and many can not catch up with the rapid changes to transformative learning! Inequalities have become more pronounced.
Should learning (and teaching) be aimed only at relevance in the community? Are we seeing 'didactic' pedagogical methods becoming more irrelevant as philosophy is going down the drain? We are in an evolving world, which still so much cares about a mark on the report of the scholar, non-practical interviews, and the like! This makes learning the most important thing, yet ignored! Who would take on someone who could not perform well in an interview? Does it equate to performance on the job? As we educate learners, we should perhaps look into assessment after the formal education- otherwise many are frustrated as they seem unemployable. Many 'educated' people are increasingly becoming laughing stock! Given the pandemic, many teachers have abandoned or are planning to abandon the profession!
