Abstract
This research investigates how artificial intelligence (AI)–driven analytics can enhance governance and strategic decision-making in the convention and event industry. Using the Salt Palace Convention Center as a case study, the project explores how governance structures—such as shareholder representation by city leadership—shape rental pricing models, market segmentation strategies, and organizational performance. The study analyzes ten years of economic impact data through a suite of analytical tools, including R, SQL, and Python for data preparation, Tableau for visualization, and pyDEA for Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA). DEA is employed to measure the relative efficiency of governance structures in optimizing resource allocation, improving pricing strategies, and balancing market expansion in a competitive, multicultural environment. By combining AI and DEA, the research bridges governance theory with evidence-based performance evaluation, offering an innovative framework for organizational analysis. This project situates governance effectiveness within the broader context of VUCA—volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity. Findings highlight how data-driven insights can empower leaders to adapt to globalization, technological disruption, and shifting geopolitical conditions while incorporating cultural intelligence into decision-making. Ultimately, this study contributes to advancing best practices in intercultural and adaptive leadership by demonstrating how AI-enabled DEA can integrate governance and operational effectiveness to maximize the shareholders’ wealth as well as the stakeholders of the convention industry communities. In doing so, it underscores the value of combining technological innovation with leadership adaptability to foster organizational resilience and inclusive strategies in today’s uncertain global environment.
