Zakia Salime is an Assistant Professor in the Sociology department and Woemn's and Gender Studies department at Rutgers. Her research interests include, race, empire, the political economy of the "war on terror", development policies, Islamic societies and movements, Middle East and US relations. Her forthcmoning book (University of Minnesota Press) explores interactions among global policies and local feminist and Islamist women's movements. By focusing upon subtle interpenetrations between these two movements, this book challenges major dichotomizing assumptions and offers a new analytical perspective for the social movement and globalization literatures and mainstream feminist theory.
