Dr. Ximena Varela teaches audience development for the arts, visual arts management, international cultural policy, and capstone seminars in arts administration at Drexel University, where she also serves as Research Director. Dr. Varela’s research interests in cultural policy include comparative cultural policy, linkages between changes in economic and social policy, and shifts in models of organization in the arts. In arts management, her research focuses on audience development, impact measures, and the management of change. She holds a Licentiate in Business Administration with a specialization in Finance and Marketing from the Universidad Catolica del Uruguay (UCUDAL); she earned her Master of Science degree in Arts Administration at Drexel University and completed her PhD in Comparative Politics at Temple University in 2008.
