Authentic Pedagogy and the Changing Tutelage Landscape
Authentic Pedagogy: As described lucidly in this course, authentic pedagogy is more child centered. It has the following aspects:
- It engages students in a disciplined inquiry.
- The inquiry is into meaningful problems.
- The inquiry is to produce a work of value beyond classroom.
- This approach promotes authentic achievements.
- A second body of knowledge is created by the students.
- It is a more motivational approach.
- It inspires students to learn.
- It helps in inculcating better skills in students.
- It encourages sensibility in the students.
What this means in the tutelage environment: As the students are engaged in a disciplined enquiry, their active engagement helps to produce an environment which fosters assimilation of new learnings. This also helps in
- Developing a habit of healthy inquiry in the students.
- To produce a body of work which not only helps the student get grades in the class but also to apply the learning in later life and outside school.
- The achievements thus produced by this method of learning, application and relearning, is of a more authentic type.
- The role of the students is not only of a learner but also as a generator of new ideas and new values.
- This approach keeps the child in active engagement with what is being discussed. Thus, the level of general motivation seems to be much better.
- The students are inspired to learn faster and more efficiently because of the active engagement.
Thus, in this changing environment of school tutelage, authentic pedagogy creates a more fertile learning environment.
