Teshome Melese’s Updates
week 1 assignment
Task 1. Flag all the suspicious values
I have flagged that the report that was for measles in November in district 3 and 13 is very odd. I thank the result is very suspicious.
Over all planning have the problem. Specially for the districts 1, 3, 4, 14 and 15
Task 2. Review the national and sub-national coverage for MR1. Your data manager produces
the following tables. What can you conclude from the administrative data?
From the data I conclude that the data collected by different professional qualification status.
The responsible stakeholders were not undertaking monitoring and evaluation timely.
Task 3. Review coverage evaluation survey data. You remember that in 2013, there was a
coverage evaluation survey. You pull up the data for that. Does this change your view?
about coverage at national level? For any of the regions?
Yes, of course. Since the denominator was adjusted downwards for the country as a whole as a result of this census, I think there were the probability of coverage increment significantly except for Grand town. But the result seems manipulated so that there was only slight difference.
Task 4. Review the chart with the age distribution of measles cases. Does that tell you
anything additional about coverage?
From confirmed measles cases in the regions there was huge gaps depending the age. Between age 1-4 and 30+ is high. This may be due to most outbreak attacks the age less than five.
In other way round there is some false data. because it is very less to occur after 30+
Task 5. Brief the Minister. Summarize the situation in three bullet points.
Regarding outbreak of measles there was false reporting. Even if a national high quality SIA was implemented, covering all children under 5 with vaccination the numbers of outbreak in the country by 2011 is very high. Still there is measles cases in the country even in the town.
Plan of one country must be depend on the population size.
In the country registries are outdated, staff’s capacity is low and the population size affect activities.
Task 6. Brief the Minister. Propose three actions to respond to the outbreak.
Identifying the cases immediately and manage accordingly.
Mobilizing the community in the country.
Providing measles campaign.
Task 7. Formulate recommendations. List your top 3-5 recommendations specific to data
strengthening you would prioritize as the EPI and surveillance teams in Vacciland
Developing the strategies how to monitor and evaluate the progress of the activities.
Capacity building for the care giver in the country through different training on how to organizing data, reporting and documenting the reports.
Integrating the measles vaccination with others health services and involving all stake holders in the country
