Male Thienken’s Updates
Week 2 assignment - Preliminary RGA
Dear Amelia
Thanks a lot for your email. Please find attached the preliminary RGA for Kirkuk with the following key findings:
- Displacement has affected traditional gender roles and responsibilities for IDPs in Kirkuk.
- For most Iraqi women, decisions about accessing medical services or taking longer journeys usually require a man’s permission.
- Even after families have arrived in camps or collective shelters, protection risks can continue with depression, lack of economic resources and family separation leaving individuals exposed to exploitation.
Therefore it is essential to
- Provide assistance for the family unit rather than targeting women or men as specific recipients for general aid to ensure equal access as men are less able to leave the home due to security concerns.
-
Set a focus on women, adolescent girls and pregnant woman who lack access to Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) services as well as on Gender Based Violence (GBV) cases which have been increased to ensure equal access to health services for women, girls, men and boys
-
Provide seperate rooms for female and male IDPs to reduce the risk of tensions and GBV.
Please do not hesitate to contact me for any further information. I am happy to discuss this further with you any time and to finalize the RGA.
Kind regards,
Male
