Kelly is a PhD student in the Rhetoric, Politics, & Culture program in the Department of Communication Arts at the University of Wisconsin Madison. Kelly holds a BA in Communication Studies from Gustavus Adolphus College and an MA in Curriculum & Instruction from the University of Colorado Denver. Prior to graduate school, Kelly spent five years teaching in a bilingual 5th grade classroom in Denver, CO and two years as a research analyst at a Denver-based foundation dedicated to improving outcomes for Colorado's low-income children and families. Her research interests include how power dynamics can empower/disempower various groups from participation in the public sphere and how discourse inlfuences systems of privilege. Kelly specifically studies the langauge we use to talk about public schools and how neoliberal education privatization efforts function to perpetuate inequities within the education system.
