Ivan Jim Layugan is a qualitative researcher, writer, and humanities instructor based in Baguio City, Philippines. His research interests include multimodal semiotics, popular music, visuality, and creative nonfiction. He is currently teaching at the University of Baguio while writing his MA thesis at the University of the Philippines where he majors in Language and Literature. An awardee for linguistic intelligence of the Philippine Center for Gifted Education's Modern Jose Rizal Awards, he extends ethnographic work with creative writing and photography. He contributes to the online news outfit Rappler and immerses on field work for projects based in the Cordillera region.
