Dr. Helena Chance began her career as an Art Editor and Picture Researcher in book publishing. After graduating with a Masters in the History of Design from Middlesex University in 1993, she divided her time teaching Visual and Material Culture in Oxford and Oxfordshire, running a small business providing cultural events for professionals in Oxford and doing her PhD at the University of Oxford. Following the completion of her doctorate in 2010, Helena was appointed full-time Senior Lecturer in Visual and Material Culture at Bucks New University in High Wycombe. Her general area of study is British and American visual and material culture from the late 19th century to the present. Her research focuses on the relationship between architecture and landscape and the design and representation of the industrial landscape in Britain and the United States from 1880-1939.
