Born and raised in East Los Angeles and the San Gabriel Valley, David Flores is the second oldest of 6 brothers and sisters to immigrant parents. He earned his BA from San Diego State University in Sociology, his Master’s Degree in the Social and Cultural Analysis of Education from California State University, Long Beach, and he is now a doctoral student at the University of California, Los Angeles. David is also a member of the Chicana/o band Las Cafeteras, an Afro-Mexican urban folk musical collective that tells the stories of the Chicana/o experience. Currently, David is combining all his interest in the study of activism and spirituality. His research looks at the important times in Latina/o history that activism and religion have intersected to support social movements.
