The Arts in Society’s Updates
Stay Home. Go Virtual.
As a Research Network, we are seeking your continued participation to keep a dialogue alive—speculative, hopeful, and urgent. In this spirit, we are pushing forward, trying to offer you the best experience with the tools we have in CGScholar Community, combined with other available tools. We invite you to participate in the Fifteenth International Conference on the Arts in Society as a virtual experience. Features of the virtual conference can be found here.
Due to an error of the host, I have been waiting ten minutes at ten (CET) - and then logged in again at eleven (CET). Therefore missed the virtual talking. Just saw that at 10.20 (CET) a mail was send about the start of the talk. Has it been recorded? Furthermore, thje presentations were uploaded very late, and without any program there was nothing to plan in advance. It is/was rather disappointing - and therefore like to discuss the possibility of a refund (paying this myself as independent researcher).
Dear Delegate,
Due to some technical problems, the second Talking Circle is beginning now. My sincerest apologies for this issue and the delay. Please see the details here:
Topic: Arts Conference Talking Circle 2
Time: Jun 26, 2020 03:00 PM Central Time (US and Canada)
Join Zoom Meeting: https://illinois.zoom.us/j/92323967795
Meeting ID: 923 2396 7795
My Talking Circle was to start at 3pm North American Central Time. I logged in at 3pm on the dot and fifteen minutes later I am stil waiting for the host to start the meeting. I have exited and tried joining several times with no luck. The Zoom circle I was on yesterday went off without a hitch. So, I'm not certain why this one would be problematic.
Hi Nancy!
Yesterday we had 24 people. I did count! But not today.
And your meeting isn't letting me in either. Hmmm! Well, that tells us something. Too many people using Zoom all at once?
Katherine, could you see how many people attended yesterday?
I will wait until 6:30am here in Melbourne Australia. It's 0C this morning, but I have a warm cat on my lap.
Same problem.
I am having the same problem. Waiting for the host to start this meeting
I live in Melbourne, Australia. Your Talking Circle sign-up says we will all be meeting Friday 26 June. That would be chronologically impossible due to geographical considerations. If I were to join the North American group, I take it I will be meeting 6am Saturday 27 June.
Just looking for confirmation. Thanks!
Good morning Katherine - just looking at the time zone converter, the first session (6:00 CST) converts to 20:00 Japan time and 21:00 Sydney time on June 26.
The second session (15:00 CST) converts to 6:00AM Sydney time on June 27.
Please let me know if you need further assistance.
Hello,
Our presentation, which was supposed to be in Theme #4 was not included. What happened? I have an email that confirmed you received the link to the video last week. I am happy to send it again. Thanks for all this hard work on bringing the conference to us.
Hello Deborah. We had to post theme four in two posts. You are right at the top here - https://cgscholar.com/community/community_profiles/the-arts-in-society/community_updates/121638
Thanks. It is posted now in Theme #4B.
Why do the links to the keynote speakers do not work? When are these available? I can't access any of them.
Hello Rebecca - we are in the process of posting them now. You should have access in the next hour.
I am also confused about how to access the conference. I have not received the email and have not had a reply to my email inquiry about this. I've been checking through the day (it is now 7.30pm 24th June where I am) so I'm keen to engage in the conference in the next few hours if it is happening. I saw a list of presentations earlier but can't find these now - I couldn't find my submitted 'virtual poster presentation' on that list....
Hello Quirijn Menken - There are currently no key speakers missing. Did you receive the email sent today to the conference link? Please contact me directly with any questions.
@Quirijn Menken,
Hello Quirijn Menken - There are currently no key speakers missing. Did you receive the email sent today to the conference link? Please contact me directly with any questions.
@Quirijn Menken,
All videos have been uploaded. Still miss the key speakers. Nevertheless, will choose some interesting presentations to be able to discuss on Friday. As all I feel disappointed, especially by the way we are 'treated', in not earlier informed on and being able to share thoughts and ideas. Tomorrow will watch some of the presentations, but am still confused about Friday.. What, where and when we are able to discuss thoughts about subjects of interest.
You will receive a link to the virtual conference today (June 24) at approx 12pm central standard time. From there you will be able to access and watch all the content, and comment. Thank you.
I am currently making a list of all the talks I want to view, and inviting people to connect as peers whenever I see we share interests/concerns. I feel this way I'm not wasting my time waiting to be sent a link.

I am really confused too, no information or email still. I am just glad for these comments so I know I am not the only one. I really thought I was missing something or hadn't read the emails properly.
You should have received emails informing you of how to upload virtual content. You will receive a link to the virtual conference today at approx 12pm central standard time. From there you will be able to access and watch all the content, and comment. Thank you.
It is very disappointing.
Here 24 June has almost passed - it is night time and there is no e-mail yet. What time will it come and can we please know whose timeline will be followed? I guess it will be Ireland's timeline. In that case I would think that we should be getting our e-mail now, as it is going on 9 am in the morning there? Please advise. I also want to commend everyone for their hard work, especially the organisers, but I am very excited and need to know how and when we are starting our conference - even if it is very fifferent to anything we could have envisaged.
You will receive a link to the virtual conference today (24 June) at approx 12pm central standard time. From there you will be able to access and watch all the content, and comment. We understand we are working with a lot of different time zones.
I feel similarly to all other members who have commented today about the lack of clarity regarding the conference. It feels as though there is no online, real-time platform for us to join, but instead just some videos gathered together for us to watch in our own time - would I be right in saying that? In a previous email, there were Zoom-based talking circles mentioned for 26th June but I know very little about these and haven't signed up for lack of clarity again. I feel uncomfortable that many of us have uploaded our work very publicly to YouTube but with no clear indication of how they are being used or shown to others.
Thank you Meghann - as I am sure you understand, we would not want people to be confused.
Thank you for the response Tamsyn. It does feel a little too late though, since this should all have been laid out for us in an email and program many weeks prior to today, highlighting the time of link and clarification that there would not be a real-time 'Zoom'-format conference for us all to connect to.
I received 1 or 2 emails briefly mentioning about talking circles, but beyond that I have no idea what they will entail. The lack of clarity is stressful for me and I imagine many others.
There are multiple ways to join the conference. You will receive a link to the virtual conference today at approx 12pm central standard time. From there you will be able to access and watch all the content, and comment. There have also been emails with the sign up for the live, talking circles.
I echo these concerns about uploading our research onto a public platform for copyright issues,
