Excellent Presentations!
Special Compliments to@Daniel Benson and @Amy Freedman for the great points on Global Populism and Belt & Road Initiative that were brought to discussion, very relevant for contemporary international debate. Great job!
I would like to thank everyone for the participation, hoping to meet you in the Talking Circle and also in the 14th Global Studies Conference in Montreal, 2021.
All the best, stay safe!
Gabriel.
Thanks for your comment Gabriel. I look forward to watching the presentations.
I regret that I missed the discussion though (was it through the virtual talking circle?), as I was hoping for feedback!
All best,
-Daniel
Wonderful presentations! The presentation on factors impacting immigration attitudes was intriguing and very relevant. The increased anti-immigrant rhetoric by the US Federal Government (Trump Administration) has many consequences.
Comment on Pieter Rondalez's presentation: Thank you, I enjoyed the presentation very much. I am intrigued by the articulation of several terms. You argue that a counter-movement to neoliberalism is utopian if it seeks to decommodify and bring the market under state regulation precisely to the extent that society has been embedded into the economy in the neoliberal project. Could you elaborate a little bit more on why that is an obstacle to the re-embedding of the economy into society precisely through the de-commodification of goods? Say, for example, in the United States health care or, in Chile, pensions. This comment is connected to the end point of your paper that goes beyond the struggle for hegemony. I was intrigued by your positing of alternative projects of calculability. What are they?
Note from the presenter: the complete title of Lennox Honychurch's book, which I reference in my talk, is In the Forests of Freedom: the Fighting Maroons of Dominica. My apologies for this slight error.
Also, so that you have the other sources written, they are as follows:
Napier, Elma. Black and White Sands: A Bohemian Life in the Colonial Caribbean
(novel by Honychurch's grandmother and first woman elected to a Caribbean parliament: published only in 2009)
Documentary:
The Quest of the Carib Canoe:

These comments are in association with my presentation, Resistance and Uncertainity: Dominica as a Microcosm of Survival in Colonialism and Globalization.
