Machine Learning and Human Learning MOOC is now live on Coursera!
Hello everyone! We are pleased to announce that the Machine Learning and Human Learning MOOC is now live on Coursera. This course is brought to you by the Learning Design and Leadership team at University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
The course explores the intersection of machine and human learning, now so important as artificial intelligence is coming to play a significant role in education and the wider world. It examines the differences between machine and human learning and the ways in which machines can complement human learning. It examines technical definitions of supervised and unsupervised machine learning, as well as broader views of mechanical intelligence able to replicate or exceed human intelligence.
The course also examines the practical applications of learning analytics and AI in educational tools and learning management systems. AI also comes with great challenge, even dangers, and for these reasons the course will also critically analyze the implications of AI in society generally and education in particular. 📚
This course is presented by a team of professors from the College of Education and Computer Science here at UIUC, each bringing diverse voices and perspectives. And they have been actively engaged in exploring the differences between machine and human learning and the ways in which machines can complement human learning.
The people who are participating in the course are listed here. In the first series of videos, Mary Kalantzis and Bill Cope will delve into the nature of machine intelligence, its limitations, and potentials in education. They will also address the role of artificial intelligence in learning, exploring fundamental concepts of machine learning and AI.
Moving on to the second series of videos, Luc Paquette will be talking about Educational Data Mining and the concept of interaction log data. And also cover engagement and behaviors in online learning environments.
In the third series of videos, Chad Lane will be talking about AI and its relationship to human learning. He will also discuss concepts of knowledge, human skill acquisition, and cognitive structures. And he will explore some applications of AI in education.
Following that, Vania Castro will discuss educational practices involving the use of mobile devices and how AI can contribute.
The final section of the course addresses the future of new learning.
Designed for current aspiring educators, as well as anyone intrigued by the fusion of human and machine learning, and the impact of AI in education and society. Join us on this enlightening journey!
