Blended Learning and Learning Outcomes of Accounting Students

Abstract

Accounting educators in professional accounting program are conscious about the from accredited professional bodies and key employers’ knowledge perspectives regarding the path that they should perform to shape the learning and practices of accounting graduates to meet the contemporary expectations of the accounting profession. Theoretical and empirical research suggest that educators in higher education also contribute to foster students’ learning process significantly, especially in a profession with career-oriented degree like accounting. However, due to a lack of evidence about learning outcomes achieved by students and what is designed for the accounting program, it is of interests and benefits for educators to identify students’ perceived learning outcomes in the learning process and to link the teaching practice with the expectations of prospective employers. However, learning outcomes, especially for professional accredited accounting degree, remain undiscovered. The objective of this study is to investigate the learning outcomes achieved by accounting students under SCU model. Research method for this study utilize surveys that the questionnaires are designed and developed to include students background information, learning outcomes and teaching approaches. Participants in the survey are students enrolled in accounting units in Term 1, Term 3 and Term 4 2024. The results of this study demonstrate differential levels of learning outcomes achieved in accounting program various year level, units and study mode. This study contributes to the development of learning materials, assessment design and teaching approaches for accounting program under SCU model.
