Psychological Empowerment and Organizational Identification Expands Employee Openness to Change and Wellness: The Role of Charismatic Executive Leadership Communication

Abstract

The study looks at how organizational identity modifies the link between employee psychological empowerment and executive charismatic leadership communication for change. To advance the field of executive leadership communication for change on workers’ receptivity to change, this is now a very popular area and one of considerable relevance. The objective of this research was to investigate the effect of charismatic executive leadership communication on employees’ change openness and wellness with the mediating role of employee psychological empowerment and moderating role of employee organizational identification. The extant study has used quantitative research design and ran a survey to collect data through structured close ended questionnaires from 219 respondents working as full time employees of IT industry based in the cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad. The obtained data were analyzed through SPSS and AMOS. The results of the analysis confirm that charismatic executive leadership communication for change was positively associated with employee psychological empowerment and employees’ openness to change. Results also confirmed that employee psychological empowerment was positively and significantly associated with employees’ openness to change and individual wellness. Furthermore, mediation mechanism of employee psychological empowerment was also statistically supported; however, moderating role of employee organizational identification was not supported. It Is concluded that there is positive relation between the variables; however moderating role of employee organizational identification was not supported due to Pakistani context.
