Elements Needed for Partnership Building and Sustainability: A Case Study of Waste Cooking Oil Recycling in Japan

Abstract

In this study, we examine how partnerships, which are essential for a sustainable society, can be built and sustained from the perspective of partnership dynamics in the case of recycling biodiesel from waste cooking oil. The role of each stakeholder involved in the partnership, such as nonprofit organizations, the public sector, citizens, and businesses, in accelerating the formation of partnerships was analyzed. In terms of building and sustaining the partnerships, it was important to visualize the involvement of all parties in the partnerships and to ensure that each of the relevant stakeholders realized that they could do something, no matter how small, to contribute to the collaboration and to encourage them to get involved.
