A Comparative Study in Evaluating the Impact of Farmer Field School on Smallholder Rice Farmers in Brgy. Frances, Calumpit, Bulacan

Abstract

Farmer Field School (FFS) is a course offered by Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) that aims to improve agricultural practices, enhance productivity, and promote sustainable farming in the Philippines. Brgy. Frances in Calumpit, Bulacan, is one of the chosen barangays which benefits from the program of FFS. The study aims to compare the effects of participating and not participating in the FFS and how it affects the welfare of smallholder rice farmers in the barangay. The researchers used a mixed-method to gather data from farmers using a structured questionnaire to obtain both qualitative and quantitative insights from farmers’ experiences with FFS. The study provides smallholder rice farmers with information, develop new skills, and access to the advance of technology. Revealed in the results that participating has a positive impact in farmers’ productivity and economic and the non-participation in FFS limits the farmers in accessing new knowledge, services, and opportunities.
