Empowering Digital Literacy: Insights from Teachers' Experiences in Indonesian Senior High Schools

Abstract

The aim of this study is to investigate how senior high school teachers in the region of Depok utilize technology devices in their classrooms and promote digital literacies based on students’ needs. Keeping up with the fast-paced development of technology is vital, and incorporating technology into classroom teaching is a crucial aspect of meeting the demands of the 21st century. Digital literacy is a part of new literacies. It has been documented that today’s classrooms must incorporate technology and promote digital literacy based on students’needs. The study explores senior high school teachers about their perceptions about incorporating digital technology and how they promote digital literacy practices based on the students’ needs. To achieve this, an explanatory mixed-method approach is used, with a survey and a focus group discussion as data collection methods. The findings of this research study can inform our current understanding of technology integration of classroom teachers and ultimately can help develop effective strategies for integrating technology in classrooms, which can improve students’ digital literacy skills.
