Jumpstart Program as Scholarship for Teaching and Learning in University of Technology

Abstract

This paper argues for scholarship of teaching research as ideal to groom new researchers. It comes against the notion that early scholars struggle to write articles as an act of telling their teaching and learning. Grounded in a sustainable learning environment, the study used participatory action research to collect data from 20 participants of the Jumpstart program of the Central University of Technology. The findings indicate a need for a new approach to research where early academics are taught basic of writing before engaging in an academic journey. The paper argues that scholarship of teaching and learning is inadequate when it ignores the scholarship of teaching research as a strategy to enhance research productivity. Combination of the two can change the research narrative of the University of Technology.
