Revisiting Natural Sciences Curriculum for Teacher Education Program

Abstract

The Philippines ranked lowest among 58 countries in an international assessment for mathematics and science for Grade 4 learners, as reported in the result of the Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS). This study revisits the Natural Sciences curriculum for the Teacher Education students focusing on the challenges that they encountered. The study employed a cross-sectional quantitative and qualitative method utilizing the challenges in Learning Science Questionnaire (CLSQ). The results revealed that difficulties in learning science were attributed to the student’s motivation, the medium of instruction, and the learning resources.
