Reconstructing Students' Musical Identities in School: A Case Study of International Secondary Schools in Shanghai

Abstract

The research study explores how students’ musical identities are formed within the context of school. This research seeks to understand how students in international schools in Shanghai form their own musical identities, as well as how music impacts students’ self-identity. By combining observations, surveys, and interviews, the study provides a comprehensive understanding of how music teaching and learning in school shapes students’ musical identities. The findings offer valuable insights for educators, parents, and policymakers in designing and implementing effective music programs in schools.
